"Сближаването на науката с технологиите"
CALL FOR PAPERS
Converging Science and Technologies: Research Trajectories and Institutional Settings
14-15 May 2007; Vienna, Austria
The 'synergistic combination' of diverse technologies and, more specifically, of nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive sciences promises to enhance human performance in new and radical ways changing our relation both to human and artificial intelligence and to the human body. Not everyone agrees with this judgement of the state of affairs and the converging technologies paradigm promises, therefore, to become a heavily contested field in the years to come.
In the meantime, the converging technologies paradigm appears to be gaining significance at another level, namely that of research programming and funding. The terms 'convergence' or 'converging' are not explicitly used in this context. However, both at the European level and in several national environments, research is actively promoted. The workshop will address this problématique by considering developments around four themes:
1) the origins, visions and purpose of the converging technology paradigm(s)
2) the public and private funding of research in the key nano-, bio, info- and cognitive science (NBIC) fields
3) educational curricula and modern career paths in S&T
4) media representations and public perceptions of converging technologies
Abstracts should be at least 500 words in length and be submitted by the 15th December electronically at
Full papers (at least 6,000 words in length) of selected participants will be due by the 15th April, 2007. Publication of the conference proceedings is foreseen.
